Patriot Exchange FAQs

  • The Patriot Exchange Program was designed to meet the insurance requirements for individuals and groups of two or more students studying abroad or participating in a cultural exchange program, including J-1 and J-2 visa holders.

  • Travelers should purchase travel medical insurance in case of any illness or injury endured while abroad. Most home-country insurances do not provide coverage for medical expenses acquired abroad. Therefore, travelers would benefit from travel medical insurance by maintaining peace of mind that they are protected while abroad. In addition, travel medical insurance is required by some programs, certain visa types, and is mandated by some countries for entry.

  • IMG has served over one million people in more than 170 countries through its dedicated efforts to providing top-notch international medical insurance, travel insurance, and world-class services.

  • IMG’s U.S. medical network is provided by UnitedHealthcare and gives travelers access to over 1.4 million physicians and facilities across the U.S.

IMG’s international network access is provided through their proprietary IPA (International Provider Access) network, including over 18,000 physicians and facilities.

  • Eligible insureds may renew their coverage for a minimum of 5 days and a maximum of 48 continuous months, as long as the premium is paid when due.

  • You can apply directly online and get covered in minutes.

  • You must present claims to IMG for payment within 180 days from the date the claim was incurred. Claims can be submitted faster and more easily using the MyIMG online portal.

IMG can pay claims for eligible medical expenses in 2 ways:

    1. Eligible expenses that have been paid by or on behalf of the insured person may be reimbursed by check directly to the insured person.
    2. Eligible expenses that the insured person has not yet paid may, at the option of IMG, be paid either to the insured person or directly to the provider
