If you cannot take your trip due to an unforeseen event, they pay you for the amount of lost, nonrefundable, and unused payments or deposits you paid for your trip.
There are quite a few but the most common are:
- Sickness, injury, or death of you, your traveling companion, or a family member
- Death or hospitalization of your destination host
- Adverse weather, natural disasters or terrorist attacks

Initial Trip Deposit means the first day any payment has been applied towards your land/air/sea arrangements.
