Copenhagen has topped the Economist Intelligence Unit’s (EIU) 2025 Global Liveability Index, surpassing Vienna, which had long dominated the rankings.
This year’s report highlights the most liveable cities in the world, showcasing those that excel in stability, infrastructure, and healthcare. The Danish capital scored an impressive 98.0 out of 100, earning perfect marks in all three categories.
Vienna and Zurich tied for second place with scores of 97.1, followed closely by Melbourne, Geneva, and Sydney. The index ranks over 170 cities annually based on key factors, including stability, healthcare, culture and environment, education, and infrastructure.
European and Australian cities dominate the rankings, thanks to their strong public services, efficient infrastructure, and robust healthcare systems.
Osaka and Auckland also made the top 10, highlighting Asia-Pacific cities that blend modern amenities with livability features appealing to both residents and expats. Vancouver rounds out the top ten, showcasing North America’s unique mix of natural beauty and urban convenience.
Commenting on the rankings, Joe Cronin, president of International Citizens Insurance (ICI), says,
When our expat clients are exploring their next destination, they weigh a variety of factors – including quality healthcare, strong cultural offerings, and excellent education.
